The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season will introduce Hawk-Eye technology to assist in judging off-side and head-high wides. This move aims to enhance accuracy and reduce umpiring errors in crucial match situations.
Traditionally, wide-ball calls were solely at the discretion of on-field umpires. However, with advancements in technology, Hawk-Eye will now play a role in determining whether a delivery crosses the wide guideline on the off-side or is too high for the batter.
This decision aligns with the IPL’s continued efforts to integrate technology for fairer gameplay. By leveraging Hawk-Eye, the league hopes to minimize controversial calls and ensure consistency in umpiring decisions.
The introduction of this system is expected to improve the overall accuracy of wide-ball calls, making the game more transparent and fair for both teams.
