“Facing Certain KKR Players Was a Nightmare”: Dwayne Bravo Reflects on His IPL Experiences
Dwayne Bravo, the newly appointed mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), recently shared his challenging experiences playing against specific KKR players during his Indian Premier League (IPL) career. Expressing his enthusiasm for joining the KKR setup, Bravo aims to instill a champion’s mentality within the team.
At the ‘Knights Unplugged 2.0’ event on March 19, Bravo discussed his aspirations for KKR and reminisced about his past encounters with the franchise:
“I’d like to bring in the champion mentality. I believe in winning. My records speak for themselves, but at the end of the day, it’s about the next generation of cricketers and helping them become champions in their own way. KKR is a team hugely respected worldwide. When I was playing, a couple of guys used to be a nightmare to face. Happy to be part of this setup now.”
Reflecting on his connections with current KKR players, Bravo noted:
“Lucky to have captained some of them in Trinidad & Tobago. The decision to join was an easy one. I want to continue the legacy and ensure KKR remains a household name around the world.”
Bravo, who ranks third among leading wicket-takers in IPL history with 183 wickets in 161 matches, brings a wealth of experience to KKR. He replaces Gautam Gambhir as mentor, following Gambhir’s appointment as India’s head coach.
Looking ahead to IPL 2025, Bravo emphasized the importance of the team’s existing championship experience:
“The key to success is passion for the game. In this squad, we have 9-10 players from the championship-winning team—that’s more than 80 percent. They already know how to win championships. That should be our aim. Enjoy each other’s success and company.”
KKR will commence their IPL 2025 campaign against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 22.
